About Keane

Hi, thanks for stopping by! Here you'll find a little bit of everything from my life from personal interests, photos, book and music recommendations, and some of my work portfolio.

Here, I'll tell you a little about myself. I was born in Des Moines, Iowa to immigrant parents from Dublin, Ireland. We moved to a suburb of Chicago a few years after and a few years after that we moved to what I call my home town of Louisville, KY. I studied physics at the University of Kentucky for my undergraduate degree and immediately went to get a master's degree of environmental science, with a concentration on Energy, at Indiana University.

I am extremely passionate about sustainable development and particularly renewable energy. Following graduate school, I took a research position at the US Environmental Protection Agency and worked on a project focused on developing tools for monitoring and tracking urban sustainability in the Chicago metropolitan area. I am now working in another analytical role at Schneider Electric Energy and Sustainability Services. I develop business intelligence applications to help our clients visualize their energy and emissions data to help them plan and achieve their sustainability goals.

Here's a list of some of my favorite hobbies:

  • Hanging with my wife, Elizabeth, daughter, Cecily, and dog, Cutie
  • Anything active: ice hockey, soccer, running, and golf
  • Doing anything outdoors
  • Having a coffee and reading a good book
  • Seeing art performed live
  • Playing chess ( ; - Lichess)

Fiction

Brothers Karamazov

The Brothers Karamazov

The Brothers Karamasov is a murder mystery, a courtroom drama, and an exploration of erotic rivalry in a series of triangular love affairs involving the “wicked and sentimental” Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov and his three sons―the impulsive and sensual Dmitri; the coldly rational Ivan; and the healthy, red-cheeked young novice Alyosha. Through the gripping events of their story, Dostoevsky portrays the whole of Russian life, is social and spiritual striving, in what was both the golden age and a tragic turning point in Russian culture.

Cat's Cradle

Cat's Cradle

Cat’s Cradle is Kurt Vonnegut’s satirical commentary on modern man and his madness. An apocalyptic tale of this planet’s ultimate fate, it features a midget as the protagonist, a complete, original theology created by a calypso singer, and a vision of the future that is at once blackly fatalistic and hilariously funny. A book that left an indelible mark on an entire generation of readers, Cat’s Cradle is one of the twentieth century’s most important works—and Vonnegut at his very best.

1984

1984

Winston Smith toes the Party line, rewriting history to satisfy the demands of the Ministry of Truth. With each lie he writes, Winston grows to hate the Party that seeks power for its own sake and persecutes those who dare to commit thoughtcrimes. But as he starts to think for himself, Winston can’t escape the fact that Big Brother is always watching... A startling and haunting novel, 1984 creates an imaginary world that is completely convincing from start to finish. No one can deny the novel’s hold on the imaginations of whole generations, or the power of its admonitions—a power that seems to grow, not lessen, with the passage of time.
